I'm building a pixel wreath for this upcoming Christmas. I'm building it using 5v 2811 pixels, the 30/meter variety. My wreath is made up of one long string of 89 pixels, and string of 49 pixels, and 24 strings of 5 pixels, for a total of 258 pixels.
I ran a little test and strung all of them together serially, and even used a 30 foot extension cable for the wire, and hooked them all up to my E682. So the setup was E682 controller, 30 foot extension cord, 5 pixels string, 5 pixels string...(all 24 of them), 89 pixel string, 49 pixel string.
They all lit up fine. But before I solder them all together permanently, I wanted to ask all of you what would be the best way to power this from the E682 controller? It seems to work fine as one long serial string. But since the E682 controller requires each connector in the cluster be the same setup, if I build this as a single 258 pixel string then I believe I'm just losing the other 3 connectors in that cluster, because I only have one of these wreathes at this size. An alternative would be to break of the wreath into 2 items, with 2 separate power supplies. One items be the 89 pixel string plus the 49 pixel string. I would configure the cluster as a 138 pixel string, and then the 24 small strips as a second item with 120 pixels combines. I would lose 18 ghost channels, but it might be best to break up this long string.
So what do you'all think? What option would you choose, and why.
