Shift Resister Breakout Board

Has anyone used a shift register to extend the digital pins of an Arduino?

This little board makes it very simple and would control more lights than I would ever need.

Question - the tutorial and code states you could control the On / Off of each individual LED up into the thousands.

Would these "extended" digital outputs (LED's) be considered channels in Vixen?
If so would Vixen control all those "extended" channels?
