EDITED.
Hello All,
As some (or most) of you may know, I am nearing the completion of my REN48LSD / DIYC-Flood setup. The board is completed and thusfar is testing out fine. Next I am trying out some color mixing. As it is, I am going to use my floods for Halloween and the main colors for Halloween lighting are orange and purple.
So first up was orange. I looked up color mixing via an RGB colorwheel on-line and I get full on for red (255) and a little more than halfway on for green (155). In the example on-line, this produced a nice rich orange. Now with my DIYC-Flood, I found that I see a green 'hotspot' in the middle and get an orange halo around it. I tried to reduce the green output to as low as 10% and while it is improved at this setting, I still see the green hot spot. So I was at first disappointed thinking that having separate LEDs for color mixing may not be as good as having RGB LEDs. But I pressed on with my testing.
Next up was purple. On the color wheel purple is made with both red and blue full on, but I found the shade of purple too light so I figured more blue, less red. So I picked about 50% for the red and blue 100%. Boom! I got the color I wanted. So I translated this to Vixen and the DIYC-Flood. THIS time the color was spot on what I wanted with very little of the hot spotting and halos.
I tried another lighter color, pink, and I used the Red and White LEDs to make this. Again no problem with hot spots and Halos. While I didn't test it, I have a funny feeling that if I try another color mix that uses green I am probably going to get the hot spot / halo issue again.
On the color chart, Yellow is full on both Red and Green. I tried adjusting each color, but to no avail. Green seems to dominate here and it is impossible to get any kind of shade of yellow.
Another thing I did was test white by mixxing all colors full on. Now here I get all sorts of hot spots and halos. I guess this is why the DIYC flood has the extra white channel so you can get a nice pure white.
So now the question is this:
Why do I have an issue when trying to mix something with green? Purples and pink comes out beautifully? Is there a way I can fix this as orange is quite the staple color for Halloween and I am kind of disappointed that it is not coming out right. Furthermore, I can't get a decent yellow out of this.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank You,
Geo
