Controller was used for several years and I have no need for it now. ALL channels for the controller were verified to be functional last week, there is no issues with it.
Price listed does not include shipping as I will need a better idea of where the user is from in order to provide a shipping estimate.

$65 : Renard SS16 w/heatsink - Channel pigtails(~16") on 12 of the channels (I only used 12 channels on this controller but all 16 channels are functional)

Raspberry PI with wired and wireless network question

$

So I have my Raspberry PI setup so that it connects to my home wireless network and the internet via a wireless connection (USB) and then my pixel network is connected via the ethernet jack to a small hub and out to my controllers.

My question is this. Is there a way for me to connect to my controllers from my wireless network. I would think I would need to somehow route the wireless network to the wired network on the Raspberry PI but my Linux skills are very old and rusty so I'm not sure how or if I can do that.

I don't want the pixel network traffic on my wireless network but I would like to be able to connect to my controllers so that I can run tests and send sequences from Vixen as tests to make sure I have the sequence how I want before I export it and load it into FPP.

Actually thinking about it seems I might have to change the route on my computer or wireless hub as well to allow my wireless network to get to the wired network. Let us just say the network is 192.168.1.x for my wireless and my pixel network is 10.1.1.x

First post, lots of ideas bubbling away in my head.

Hi all. My name is Roger, I'm 44 years old from Staffordshire UK and I think I am a pixelholic.

I've had a fascination with music and lighting most of my life and I've followed Matt Johnson's shows for a couple of years now on youtube amongst others. I stumbled across this forum last Christmas and got all worked up into getting my feet wet with pixels this year but I didn't. Now I have been bitten by the pixel bug again and I cannot stop thinking about pixels.

I've spent many hours trawling through these forums and feel I've learnt a lot over the last couple of weeks and have a reasonable understanding of how this all works without powering up a single pixel (famous last words huh?). I also have many random questions that I have not seen the answers too just yet but I will try and start walking before I can run. You'll be pleased to know I will not be attempting anything this year besides playing with Vixen and trying to get my head around it but next year I have promised the Mrs some pretty twinkle twinkles in the front garden.

We only have a small area to fill so I'm slowly making a plan which looks like this so far.

Software - Vixen.
Controller - SanDevices E682.

4-6 Mini Trees
2 Arches

I'll also be outlining a front porch extension with some smart strips. If all goes to plan I'll do more outlining the following year including the high level stuff. I would prefer to leave the high level stuff in place all year round or make it fit in a way that is quick and easy to install/remove. For year 2 I would also like to add a mega tree but not a huge one. I can see year 2 requiring a 2nd controller.

So some decisions have been made like controller type, and was thinking of sticking with 12v WS 2811 pixels throughout mainly for ease of setup and hopefully less power injecting required. If the budget allows I would like to use a Raspberry pi for the show player but for my first year I may have to network from my PC and run from there.

So that's where my plan is at right now. I hope to purchase my controller kit soon and get soldering. I'm not too bad at that although I found the idea a little daunting at first but I've had a look at the board, components and flicked through the assembly instructions and it's not really scary fine work so I've decided I should be cool with it. Once I have the kit on hand and start building it I'll order a 5m smart strip and 50-100 pixels to test and play with.

If your still with me, thanks for reading and if you can see any problems with my plans I'd love to hear it sooner rather than later.

Cheers. :thup2:

A pixel wreath in Vixen 3 - what am I doing wrong?

$

I am going to add a few pixel wreaths to my display from boscoyostudio it's 54 nodes in a circle with 3 nodes on each branch with 18 sets in all.

I figured the easiest way to set this up in Vixen 3 was to treat it like an 18 string mega tree with 3 pixels on each string.

I created the element as a megatree, with string count 18, set as pixel, and 3 pixels/string.

Then I go into my preview and make the wreath selecting the element and then the megatree icon and draw the tree and shape it. The only problem is it doesn't turn pink - it just stays white.

I fought for this for a while and then I figured I was doing something wrong so I just made a regular sized megatree in my elements and tested it in the preview and it worked...

So then I started playing with the pixels/string count and lowering it. It turns out at 5 it will be linked (pink) but at 4 or lower (I tried to 2 - cause I have another element I need to do this with at 2) it stays white.

How do I get this to link up so I can use the megatree drawing tool since it does sort of match up to how it will look (just from a different perspective ie looking down).

Or is there a better way to do this type of element in vixen? Should I just draw it out and make a template from it - that's probably the better answer.

I just like some advice so I go in the proper direction with it.

Thanks!

SanDevices E682 Setup question

$

Until now I have been able to maintain the same number of pixels on each line coming from a group on a San Devices E682. Very happy with these, and plan to use them for some time. (Yes, I also have Falcon controllers but the SD's have much utility left in them.)

My question is, I have a couple of controllers that will not be "balanced" in a couple of the groups. What I mean is in one group I have one string that has 100 pixels, another that has 120, a third that has 45 and the last has 12. I understand that I should set the "Length Pixels" to the longest string (in this case 120), but how do you treat those that are missing? (String1 missing 20, string3 missing 75, string4 missing 108.)

I'm using the latest of both xLights/Nutcracker and Vixen 3.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheap but dependable

Hello everyone. Was wondering if anyone has suggestions on a cheap controller for my ws2811 floods I built with robs kit. On a budget this time of year. Normally I would go with a pixlite as its what I am use to but don't have funds for that since I have to also get an enclosure , PSU, etc... Looking for something ready to go under 100 bucks if that even possible?

Thanks for your time gentlemen..ROn.

Vixen 3 Text Converter vs Papagayo

Advice?

Second year display, first year with a singing face element. Obviously, I know sequencing it is going to be tedious and time consuming when it comes to making this guys face work, but which is less tedious? I have mastered the ability of using the text converter in Vixen 3 to convert, which works really well, but I'm wondering what everyone's experience with Papagayo is. Would Papagayo likely be a time saver, or is it even more time consuming to use?

I figure some of you out there have experience with Papagayo being the only game in town, so I'm just looking for some feedback.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Motor/pulleys for Ferris wheel

Good evening.

I am really confused. This is my first time at animation and I have received lots of good replys. Thanks to all.

My confusion is that I have built this 8 ft Ferris wheel. It has a 1 1/4 inch metal conduit shaft on the wheel and I have been advised to run it with a wiper motor.

The problem that I am having is that if I use a sprocket I cannot find one with a bore of 6 millimeters for the wiper shaft. The same is true for a v belt pulley.

I have called numerous companies and have been told no 6 mm bore pulley or sprocket exists.

I guess I am a little slow at figuring this out.

Someone told me to use a low rpm gear motor. Is that ac or dc?

This is for a community display and I am completely stumped. Help would be appreciated

help with alphapix 4 setup

i was wondering if anyone could give me help trying to figure out why i cant get my alphapix 4 working correct.
1st output 600 pixel 300 next 600 and 450 at the end(26 strips 75 pixels high). i get everything setup in xlights and when i start to output to it it starts to do the effect and starts random light flashing. holiday coro thinks it is a firewall or something like that but i am using the same computer i ran my show on last year. if i then hit stop in xlights the effect stops and the random flashing keeps on. I have been wasting a lot of time with this and hoped someone had ideas i can try. If not my next move is to pay $40 to see if holiday coro can fix it. any help would be appreciated.

Less than a month ago I had a stress test which I passed with flying colors. Less than a week ago I had a regular visit with my doctor and everything was fine. On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, I had to have an ultra sound done on liver because of cyst. It was a routine test just to make sure it didn't get bigger. Well, I got more than I bargained for. They found an abdominal aortic aneurysm and that about 5.3 centimeters. So, I called my cardiologist and doctor and went home. I was working in the yard digging post holes and I had another heart attack. My first heart attack was the widowmaker back in April 2011. Anyway, I'm home now and surgery will be required to fix the aneurysm because a cat scan showed it was over 6 centimeters and very dangerous. I'm doing good but really restricted as to what I can do. Probably have surgery in less than 2 months. This was accidentally caught and I can't stress enough that people need to be proactive in their health screenings.

Help importing Vixen 2.1 sequence into NC/XL

$

Like many people I am making a big push towards RGB this year going from about 4000 channels to about 18,000 channels. I have about 400 channels of of non rgb lighting (Rennard) including four eight channel faces. Last year I did my non RGB channels in vixen and my RGB channels in XL3 and converted to vixen. I then converted the whole sequence to .fseq to play on the FPP. This year I am trying to transition to Xlights as my primary sequencer but do not want to lose the previous sequences done in Vixen. I have tried various ways to import these channels but continue to have problems. A data layer does not put the data on the proper channels, the Import/Mapping does not seem to help either. Under importing through a map, data that should be on face 1 shows up on face three. When using the mapping import function, I have to use a flattened sequence that I copy into the nutcracker directory in order for the mapping to show up.

How do I need to setup my layout or Vixen profile so that they will match. Ant help would be appreciated as I do not have time to redo 18 sequences from scratch. Thanks!!!
